2011 Volvo V60 Estate EuroNCAP Crash Tests (Frontal Offset, Side, & Pole) | More info
Based on data reviewed by Euro NCAP, a similar level of safety performance can be expected from the Volvo S60 (2010-)
The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact, the windscreen pillar being deformed rearward only 1mm after the test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. Volvo showed that a similar level of protection would be provided for occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. In the side barrier test, the V60 scored maximum points, all body regions being well protected. In the more severe side pole impact, dummy readings of rib compression indicated marginal protection of the chest. The seat and its fixed-position head restraint provided good protection against whiplash injuries in a rear-end collision.
Both child dummies were seated rearward-facing in the frontal and side impact tests. The V60 gained maximum points for its protection of the dummies in the dynamic tests. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. However, information provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag is not sufficiently clear. A non-permanent pictogram-only label gives insufficient warning of the dangers of using a rearward facing restraint in this seating position without first disabling the airbag.

Volvo V60 vs human crash test dummies in Morphsuits | More info
Volvo says its pedestrian detection system can stop the car automatically if anyone or anything runs out in front of it. We put this theory to the test, not with plastic crash test dummies, but with real life, fleshy human beings in Morphsuits. Will the Volvo stop in time to prevent a catastrophe?

NHTSA - New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) side pole impact:
A small-sized adult female crash test dummy is placed in the driver's seat and is secured with a seat belt. The test vehicle, angled at 75 degrees, is then pulled sideways at 20 mph (32km/h) into a 25-cm diameter pole at the driver's seating location. This test mimics a side impact crash involving a narrow, fixed object like a utility pole or tree. 1 star is the lowest rating; 5 stars is the highest. More stars equal safer cars.
